Seniors

Frick…I’m really going to miss this year’s group of seniors. Don’t get me wrong; I miss every year’s outgoing seniors, some more than others, but nevertheless I will always miss the seniors. It’s just weird knowing that next year, for the first time in my school career at Punahou, I won’t have the class of 2012 to look up to. You guys have always been a talented, awesome, and successful class in any field of learning and in any tasks you guys are presented. I want you guys to know that I have mad respect for you guys. Hopefully next year we can out shadow you guys, hopefully. I need to go study for my finals now so I can’t make this long, but to the class of 2012 (Punahou), I’d like to apologize on behalf of what some of my classmates did to your poster on skip day. It really showed how immature we are and I hope the class of 2013 will realize how wrong their actions were.

I want to congratulate you guys for graduating and wish you all the best of luck in college!

I will always have Punahou Pride no matter how old I get, no matter how much shit we get, or even how much we lose, because Punahou is all about getting back up from those who knock you down. One can strip away anyone’s pride from them… but this is the type of pride in which no one can strip from me.

Tear of idk anymore

Am I sad that it’s over? Am I sad that we lost?

Nah I think I’m more overwhelmed at tonight’s game in general. Every time I reflect upon the game, tears roll down my eyes as I see the clock run out, our chance slips away slowly as the clock goes tick tock. Everything what we’ve worked for is halted before the finish line.

But what contradicts my emotions is, after the game, after everyone’s emotions of losing settles down, our team starts to pull back together. Coaches telling how proud they are to us. Captains, seniors telling us how thankful they are for such a memorable year. That feeling where no matter what happens we are able to come back together…. that is something no riches in the world can purchase. Moved by this, tears roll down my face…tears of joy.

So what type of tears am I streaming? If I tried to define it, it’ll probably leave me speechless. But all I know now is that, this is a night to remember, a team to remember, and a memory to cherish, forever. Thank you Punahou for this opportunity. And thank you Family, friends, and Sons of Oahu for everything.

Sons of Oahu

I couldn’t have been more proud of my brothers today. I feel like I have so much to say, but to tell the truth there ain’t much. We laid it all on the line and we fell just a bit short. I wish we coulda pull it off in the end but we didn’t, and the game is over. But one thing I know is for sure. Our brotherhood, bonds, and memories will never fade. No one can take that away from us, not even God himself. Every day after practice, one of our boiz Austin give out a hawaiian word of the day. And it’s interesting because it always has to do with us and has a story behind it. Today’s hawaiian word of the day was No Kau a Kau: which means for eternity. Our brotherhood, bonds, and memories will never die, it will for ever continue for eternity. This season wasn’t a success of one person but as one team we were able to become champions. Yes some may say, but you guys never one. But according to Tim, which i completely agree in was this quote by him.

“hey guys, do you guys remember when I challenged you guys at the beginning of the season to become perfect? Well nothing makes me more proud to know, now that the season is over, to say that we were perfect. Yes we never won it all the way, but it’s not all about that, a perfect team is when each player can look into another players eyes and be able tell that he’s got your back through ups and downs, be about to say that everyone has given his all to the success of the team. That’s what a champion team is, and no matter what we we’re all in this for life.”

Today Coach asked who we want to dedicate this game to…

My answer was to my mother because she’s there for me no matter what and she sacrificed so much for me. The second answer I gave was the whole Punahou Community. Including the fans, the alumni, the coaches, and especially for my boys. Because no matter the situation I know my boys will have my back in any given situation. For the seniors of the team, us, underclassmen will always dedicate this game to you guys because you guys were what motivated us to keep going this season. You guys helped led us to where we are right now. So lets finish this together with a victory. Lay everything out on the line and leave everything on the field. I know you got my back and you can bet your ass I got yours.

So I as you now… Who would/will you dedicate this game to?

Real Talk

For the last couple games coach has been inviting a former Punahou player and UH player, (name slips my mind but once I remember I’ll come back and fill this in). I’ve been listening to his speeches for a while now. Oh and yes I did mix in Coach Nate’s quotes as well, I felt as if it was relevant. It shows how much love our coaches have towards us players and the sport its self. Here is some of the real talk, which happens before any hitting, or playing begins.

“They say there isn’t a “I” in team, one player cannot win a team game such as football. I beg to differ because, “I” am willing to sacrifice every inch of my body for my team, “I” can look left and right knowing that no matter where I look, my brothers will have my back every step of the way. Back in the old days when I played, there wasn’t a lot of bitching about a penalty call and all that, we let the refs handled that. Our goal was to rip apart anyone who wasn’t wearing our colors, but to the whistle. We played the game how it was designed to be played, not in a cheap dog ass loser way of playing, but by the four core values our school, Punahou, goes by: Integrity, Commitment, Courage, and Teamwork. So when you boys go out there representing that name on your chest, you remember to tell yourself this. “I” am willing to fight for my teammates, “I” will not let them down by making stupid mistakes and dumb decisions which can be avoided, and “I” definitely will never give up and hang my head down in an circumstances, because “I” am a Son of Oahu…rock’n’roll boiz”
